Holy Spirit & Water Baptism

Water Baptism

Water baptism is the act of an existing follower of Jeus putting a new follower under water for a short time and then coming out of the water. The purpose of baptism is to show one’s obedience to Jesus and repentance for sin. It also is meant to show how people are now dead to the old self and sin, and have new life in Jesus (Acts 2:38, 22:16, Mark 16:16, Matthew 28:19, Romans 6:1-14).

Holy Spirit Baptism

Holy Spirit baptism is different from receiving the Holy Spirit. Receiving the Holy Spirit occurs when someone believes Jesus is Lord and died for them. Holy Spirit baptism is an empowerment of a follower for the benefit of other people. It can be described as the Holy Spirit falling on a follower or a follower being cloaked in power. (John 20:22, Luke 24:49, Acts 1:5-8).
